I have read many different books on my journey to start homesteading and become more self sufficient. Many of them have pleasant graphics and pictures as well as helpful information all levels of homesteader.

My delightful little animals are the family pets, most acquired years ago before the dream even began. So what to do to keep your backyard edibles clear of pet influence?
There is an old saying, “the best time to plant a fruit was 20 years ago. The next best time is now” (Chinese proverb). For any homestead there are a lot of options to consider when selecting fruit trees. Apples? Pears? Oranges? This is a list of some alternatives that are just as wonderful and often have many other benefits besides good taste.
One of the most successful vegetables for me to grow has been radishes. I eat the root parts in everything from salads to steamed in lasagna, but what about the leaves. Here is a good way to use this unsung hero: leaf pesto!
